John Muir Hut

Stopped for lunch at the hut. There was a severe thunderstorm about 45 minutes earlier while climbing up to the hut in Muir Pass along the John Muir Trail. Backpackers were scattered off the trail, staying low and riding it out. The hut is not a good place to be in a thunderstorm.

Virga Continental Divide Trail

The Wind River Range is a very dry place, the only place I've ever seen Virga which is rain that never hits the ground. Dehydration can be an issue backpacking here. I normally pump water twice a day on backpacking trips; here I did three times and could have used four. You get hammered by the sun from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm unless there is a storm.

The John Muir Hut was constructed by the Sierra Club as a memorial to this great environmentalist and backpacker.

Home Sweet Home Snow Camp Yellowstone

My first experience with a single wall tent in winter. The only place where it was snowing was inside the tent! From all of the frozen condensation that fell on me whenever I moved. Had the door open about 1/3, needed to be about 1/2.
