Snow coaches, snowmobiles, snowshoes, and skis are the only way to get to the Old Faithful Snow Lodge in winter.
The Wind River Range is a very dry place, the only place I've ever seen Virga which is rain that never hits the ground. Dehydration can be an issue backpacking here. I normally pump water twice a day on backpacking trips; here I did three times and could have used four. You get hammered by the sun from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm unless there is a storm.
The John Muir Hut was constructed by the Sierra Club as a memorial to this great environmentalist and backpacker.
