Print Sizes

Photographs - single images

Photographs are single image photographs which have an aspect ratio (short side : long side) of 1:1.5. This means they will fit perfectly (no cropping required) on any image size of that ratio: 4x6, 8x12, 10x15, 12x18, 16x24, 40x60, etc. All available sizes of this aspect ratio are supported plus other sizes which will require cropping at checkout.

Panoramas - multiple images merged together into a single larger image

The panoramas (horizontal and vertical) are all custom sizes but typically have aspect ratios of about 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, etc. These are made from multiple horizontal or vertical images merged together into a new single image. The more square shapes are called composites which are frequently made from multiple rows and multiple columns of images. All relevant print sizes are supported plus other sizes which will require cropping at checkout.

Posters - graphic art combinations of photographs, text, graphic elements, etc.

The posters are designed for specific sizes which are supported as well as 3/4 scale and 1/2 scale to fit into a smaller space and reduce cost. The 1/2 scale poster prints may be too small to see all fine detail and small text clearly.

Customer Cropping

To fit a larger image onto a smaller print size it will be necessary to crop the image. Cropping is done at checkout by the customer. The SmugMug cropping tool is powerful, flexible, and easy to use. It allows the customer to pick a custom size that works for them, and crop out just the part of the image that they want to use - everything outside the crop box is removed before printing. You can easily cancel the process and try other print sizes if desired. You only pay for the actual size of the cropped print.
