I'm primarily a Wilderness and Underwater Photographer but also take photographs of unique local attractions like the Washington, DC Monuments, the Cherry Blossoms, Antietam Illumination, and the Baltimore Grand Prix. They are all beautiful, spectacular, and lots of fun to see, shoot, and display.

Most of the photographs are taken during hiking, backpacking, backcountry skiing, and scuba diving trips to spectacular and pristine wilderness areas. I've been hiking, backpacking, and doing photography for most of my life. Locally I do a lot of hiking and photography in Shenandoah National Park,  the George Washington National Forest, and the Monongahela National Forest. I have led hiking, biking, backpacking, and backcountry ski trips for local outdoor clubs for over 30  years.

In addition to photographs I also create posters about these scenic wilderness regions. They are unique combinations of multiple photographs, text, and in some cases graphic elements. To date, I have created over 275 graphic arts posters from the many backpacking, backcountry skiing, scuba diving, and hiking trips I've done.

My photography tools include: Canon and Nikon cameras; wide angle, telephoto, and macro lenses; tripods, ball heads, filters, etc. My post processing tools include Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge; Photomatix, and the Nik Suite of tools. Graphics design is done with InDesign and Ventura Publisher. LCD monitor and printer color calibrations are done with Datacolor's Spyder tools. I use Epson, Canon, and Hewlett Packard printers.

Images shown span both film and digital capture. Starting about 2000 my film scanners were used to convert 35mm slides to high resolution digital images allowing digital post processing and printing. In some cases 35mm slides were scanned by a service bureau on a Tango Heidelberg drum scanner at 8,000 dpi. I started with digital capture in 2009, and purchased a Canon 5D Mk II in 2012 and have been totally digital capture since then.

While I am primarily self-taught in photography and image post processing; I have taken instructor led and online courses, as well as reading relevant books and magazines. I am also a member of KelbyOne (formerly NAPP). I firmly believe in continuous self improvement whether in photography, image post processing, graphics design, printing, or engineering.

My professional training and experience is in Ocean, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineering and I use powerful, complex engineering design and analysis tools for 3D solid modeling, finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
